About Us

G&S Kinghorn Enterprises is the 2003 merger of husband and wife businesses following their 2002 marriage. Greg Kinghorn had owned and operated Greg Kinghorn Flooring Installations for over 25 years prior to the merger. Greg’s passion for carpentry had also evolved over the years, and naturally progressed from working in flooring only, to building homes, additions, and renovations. Susan Kinghorn had owned and operated Susair Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning since 1998, doing residential, small commercial & new home construction.  In 2005 they opened "Nature's Powers", as a retail operation in Cardinal ON. The retail operation included sales of natural flooring and renewable energies. The flooring sales coupled with the flooring installation side of the business, and the renewable energy was to accompany the mechanical side and take us into a greener ways of doing things. However due to a motorcycle accident in September of 2005 Susie has been unable to return to the mechanical contracting (Susair), however she continued  to grow in the mechanical trade by adding numerous HRAI (Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Institute) courses to achieve HRAI’s designation of “Residential Air System Design Technician”  and  “Residential Hydronic Design Technician”.    After three years, of hard work  in Cardinal, like many others in businesses in 2008, it was decided that the store front would close, and "Nature's Powers" would be moved to the home/shop base, where several examples of renewable energies are in operation.  The store was renovated into 2 apartments, which was completed by G&S Kinghorn also.

The operation now existing at 9512 Hall Rd includes a 1 kW Lakota Wind Generator on a 75' tilt tower. 1664 watts of solar PV on the shop roof w/ a 7000 watt Outback Grid Tied inverter. The power system has been, grid tied in a "net" metering arrangement with Hydro One, but is being changed to an off-grid inverter with generator back up since the addition of a 10kW MicroFIT system to the property in 2010. The Shop also has 90 Apricus Vacuum Tubes for creating solar hot water. This system is tied to in-floor heating in the shop, heating for the house, hot tub water heating and domestic hot water demands. These systems were installed by and are maintained by the Kinghorn's and are a portion of their "Test and Training Centre".

Susie and Greg have been attending seminars in renewable energies regularly since starting the business in 2005. They have been certified by several manufacturers for installation of renewable energy products. The "home/shop" property is adjacent to their farm property of 143 acres they purchased in 2006.

Renewable "green" alternatives have taken a front row seat in recent years. Global warming, and a renewed respect for our Earth have taken on a greater importance, so does the interest in renewable energies.

The Ontario Power Authority stepped up in 2009 announcing a renewable energy feed back program, which was finally defined in November of that year with the FIT program. This is a VERY exciting opportunity for anyone wanting to invest in Renewable Energies...particularly solar in Ontario.
